This South Orange renovation reimagines key spaces of a 2000s-era home for a professional couple and their school-aged daughter. With a full kitchen overhaul, redesigned primary bathroom, updated powder room, and fireplace makeover, the project transforms a dated interior into a sleek, personality-rich family home.

Walnut cabinetry, moody tones, and a walk-in pantry define the new kitchen, while a reconfigured primary bath provides a calming, spa-like retreat. The clients sought custom-tailored spaces that felt both functional and reflective of their personal style, creating a home they’d feel proud to share with friends and family.

The new kitchen features a striking blend of clean-lined walnut and satin charcoal gray custom cabinetry. Refined details include fluted walnut at the island ends, crisp quartz countertops, and a subtly undulating backsplash. To ensure visual continuity, the original floor tiles were replaced with oak flooring to match the wood throughout the first floor.

Custom cabinetry maximizes every inch of storage, with a fully integrated fridge and induction range. Each cabinet and lighting selection—including recessed downlights, under-cabinet task lights, and statement fixtures—was made with close attention to scale and proportion, making the space feel both cohesive and highly functional.

The updated living room fireplace now features a slim walnut surround, textured black ceramic tiles, and an adjusted mantel height for optimal TV viewing. In the powder room, a bold jungle-themed wallpaper contrasts with a walnut vanity and curved wraparound mirror, bringing personality and height to the small space.

The primary bathroom was completely reconfigured for better flow and dual use, including a double vanity, full-height mirrors, and new separate water closet. Slate-gray herringbone flooring and pale vertical stone wall tiles create a calming, contemporary tone that complements the family’s fast-paced lifestyle.

A cantilevered stone bench and ceiling-mounted rainhead bring a luxurious feel to the walk-in shower. Clean lines and restrained materials maximize the serene, spa-like atmosphere.

The combination of design & architecture as one team makes life so much easier.

My husband and I work super long hours and they helped manage the project, narrow down choices for us and keep everything on track. Plus their work is beautiful.”
